“Seeing the success of the symposium on mental health we had last year, we wanted to make our symposium an annual event at our school where we would cover different issues pertaining to our generation. This year, in collaboration with the National Honor Society, we are hosting a symposium on drug usage and addiction among adolescents. We chose to focus on drug usage this year because we believe that despite the declining trend of hard drug usage, soft drug usage still continues to stay constant. We want to educate our peers and the people around us about the impact soft drugs like vaping and marijuana can have on teenagers and adolescents.
The symposium will be in the format of a TED talk and will be split up into three sections: science, policy, and prevention. Our panel of speakers will include Dr. Lucien Gonzalez from the University of Minnesota, Department of Psychiatry; Senator Greg Clausen representing Minnesota’s 57th district, and a representative from the Youth Service Bureau.”
