With the situation occurring in Afghanistan, many soldiers are stressed and struggling. If the soldier is a parent, this stress can transmit directly to their families.

Children are like a barometer; they measure pressure within a family. When a parent is stressed or struggling, children can sense the pressure change within the family, even though they may have no idea what is going on. This awareness of the pressure change can lead to stress and anxiety for children, and they may even start acting out because of it.

In times like this it can be helpful for parents to talk to their children about the stressors, to give their children some context and understanding of why things are happening. Here are some tips for having those conversations.
