Director of Development and Communication

Position Overview: The Director of Development and Communication, as a member of the leadership team, plays a key role in fundraising, communications and marketing.

Reports to:  Executive Director
Exempt Status:  Exempt

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement annual development plans with clear income goals, benchmarks, and timelines.
  • Prepare corporate and foundation grant requests; assist Executive Director in managing relationships with key grant funders; responsible for grant reporting and site visits.
  • Lead a comprehensive individual giving program; cultivate, manage and secure gifts from donors.
  • Conduct research on current and prospective donors and align gift opportunities with donor interests.
  • Increase overall contacts with donors working with Executive Director and board members.
  • Create and manage fundraising and donor recognition events.
  • With other YSB employees and volunteers, develop and implement an annual communications and marketing strategy.
  • Participate in management decision making as part of leadership team.
  • Oversee staff providing support for development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Direct Reports:

  • Administrative Assistant with part time development support responsibilities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • B.A. in non-profit management, marketing/communications or related field; M.A. in related field desirable; fundraising certification desirable.
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience and demonstrated success with organizing and growing an individual donor base.
  • Superior grant writing and oral presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising in Twin Cities and East Metro areas.
  • Demonstrable skills in budgeting and planning.
  • Energetic and outgoing personality.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and daily access to an automobile.

Administrative Assistant – Woodbury Office

Position Overview: The Administrative Assistant connects the public to agency programs and activities and provides specialized administrative support to site staff. This position supports several departments and performs administrative tasks as assigned.

Reports to: Senior Administrative Assistant
Exempt Status:  Non Exempt

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to therapy, community justice and other program staff.
  • Provide administrative support to management team members.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls and provide telephone backup to other YSB office locations.
  • Connect clients to services; greet guests, register clients, collect and record payments for services, schedule clients for services and space for community use.
  • Tabulate and record all BASC responses and site generated program evaluation tools.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment or service problems and secure authorized maintenance and repairs.
  • Keep reception areas and public meeting spaces neat, orderly and family friendly.
  • Prepare meeting spaces and refreshments for agency meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Site-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serve as therapy department follow-up coordinator.
  • Available two evenings per week.
  • Serve as communications assistant for website, social media and print materials.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • High School diploma, college degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, FileMaker Pro, Entourage, QuickBooks or similar programs.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a variety of on-going tasks and projects.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict management skills, especially while working with clients under stress.
  • Ability to protect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and daily access to an automobile.

Volunteer Opportunities

Event Advisory Committee Volunteer

Position Overview: Events are crucial to raising funds and support for YSB- including our new expansion campaign to grow mental health and chemical health services across Washington County! As an Event Advisory Committee Volunteer, you will play an important role in making our events a success. A variety of opportunities are available throughout the year.

Time and Place:
Planning meetings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, from 4:30 to 6:00pm.

Principal Responsibilities:
Volunteer opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Committee participation (decorating, donations, etc.)
  • Helping to solicit sponsorship
